In Mark 12:28-33 Jesus was asked by a religious leader of the day which of the Ten Commandments was the greatest. He replied to love God with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength. However, Jesus also said that to love our neighbors as much as well love ourselves is also important. For that reason we have adopted the following vision statement
Compass Point Church exists
to love God and love people.

Compass Point Church started in 2004 as an apartment complex Bible study in Lakeland, Florida. As it began to grow God began lay on the hearts of leaders Chris Elrod and David Nash the idea of actually planting a church. One year later Compass Point Church was launched on Easter Sunday 2005. Since that time Compass Point has met in three different locations, tripled in size and has seen hundreds of lives transformed by the renewing of God’s grace. While Compass Point is a church plant of the South Florida Baptist Association, we are a self-governing and independent church. In accordance with Scripture, we partner with various religious organizations that share our values, goals and doctrinal beliefs.

Compass Point is first and foremost led by God and His Word. We also have a small group of Elders that work in conjunction with our Senior Pastor Chris Elrod to act as overseers of Compass Point Church. The Elders are chosen in accordance with the requirements for leadership as defined in 1 Timothy 3 and all areas of Compass Point Church are accountable to them. Our day-to-day activities and ministries are guided by a collective group of pastors and leaders known as the Compass Point Leadership Team. As a Southern Baptist Convention church, we embrace the doctrinal ideas presented in the "2000 Baptist Faith & Message" doctrinal statement. We have taken the time to break down that document into a more simple explanation which can be downloaded using the link to the right under the Docs & Forms column.
